World Bank - consulting opportunity in Mozambique biodiversity project

Mozambico - Author Moongateclimber

Within a World Bank-financed project aimed at creating conservation areas for biodiversity and development in Mozambique, firms are invited to express their interest in providing consultancy services for preparation of projects and tendering assistance.

The Government of Mozambique has received a grant from the  International Development Association (the Wolrd Bank's fund for the poorest) towards the costs of the Mozambique Conservation Areas for Biodiversity and Development Project (Mozbio), that aims to increase the effective management of conservation areas and improve the living conditions of communities in and around conservation areas.

The project is divided into five components:

  • component 1 will support capacity building of the newly created National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) and Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND);
  • component 2 will finance activities aimed at the promotion of nature-based tourism, improving regulations, and strengthening the government's capacity;
  • component 3 will strengthen the management of conservation areas and support the construction of badly needed infrastructure, as well as cover some of the recurrent costs of these existing areas to ensure they can attract tourists and manage biodiversity properly;
  • component 4 is directed to supporting livelihoods of communities living in and around conservation areas;
  • component 5 will support project management and monitoring and evaluation.

The Government of Mozambique intends use part of the funds to select a consulting firm with appropriate experience to carry out consulting services for:

  • preparation of executive projects and rehabilitation projects,
  • preparation of tender documents,
  • tendering assistance for the selection of contractor in Quirimbas National Park, Bazaruto Archipelago National Park and Pomene National Reserve, including bill of quantities and technical specifications.

The consultancy firm must be legally registered to operate in Mozambique, with over 10 years experience in designing executive architectural and engineering projects. Experience in the design of projects in conservation areas will be considered an advantage.

The expressions of interest must be delivered to ANAC not later than 14 September 2015.
